On behalf of the Task Force for Universal Health Coverage, R4D is pleased to present an update on universal health coverage (UHC). Officially launched in November 2010, the Task Force represents a network of individuals established to align institutional efforts and support progress towards UHC in countries. It is convened by BRAC University, Results for Development, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the Thailand Ministry of Public Health.

First shared at the Montreux Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, this update outlines key efforts and activities underway to expand health coverage, including country announcements, regional resolutions, and events highlighting universal health coverage.
As the update describes in greater detail, various initiatives at the global and national levels in support of universal coverage reflect the current success, inherent complexities, and future potential of reform efforts.
Some of the key activities featured in this update include:
• The convening of a high level expert group on universal health coverage by the Planning Commission of India
• The successful passing of a resolution for universal health coverage by the South-East Asia Regional Committee of the WHO in early September
• The 2010 World Health Report: The Path to Universal Coverage, launched in November at the International Ministerial Conference on Health Systems Financing
