11 January, 2012

Founded in 2005, Nextbillion.net is a website and blog bringing together the community of business leaders, social entrepreneurs, NGOs, policymakers and academics who want to explore the connection between development and enterprise. R4D staff are regular contributors to the site.

This week, R4D Program Officer Rose Reis posted an interview with Managing Director Marty Makinen about the importance of the for-profit healthcare sector in Ghana. (http://www.nextbillion.net/blog/2012/01/10/in-ghana-for-profit-health-providers-)

R4D staff contributed two posts to Nextbilion.net's Best Ideas of 2011 series. Reis reflected on the blurring line between advocacy organizations or programs and media outlets, listing a number of examples from the growing trend of “advomedia.” (http://www.nextbillion.net/blog/2012/01/06/best-ideas-of-2011-innovating-for-life-). Senior Program Associate Oscar Abello wrote about the need for better quality coverage of global development in mainstream media, including the need for better communications from global development staff to the average person.
