R4D’s Transparency and Accountability Program, led by project coordinator Courtney Tolmie, visited New Delhi on July 21, 2009 and Kampala on July 29, 2009 to bring together its grantees from its latest grant round. Tolmie, assisted by program associate Courtney Heck, facilitated 3-day launch workshops in which grantees received technical training from experts on public expenditure tracking methodologies, discussed program goals, and met fellow participants. The 20 grantees came from 12 countries (4 from Asia, 8 from Africa) for the common goal of improving public spending through public expenditure tracking and on-site monitoring to determine absenteeism. The grantees will reconvene in March 2010 for a peer-review workshop to discuss preliminary findings.
