Aarthi Rao joined the Results for Development team in June 2009. She works across various projects including the Ministerial Leadership Initiative, the Center for Global Health R&D Policy Assessment, and the Health Financing Task Force. She also coordinates the joint series, "New Visions for Improving Health Care in the Developing World," with the Global Health Council. Ms. Rao has worked in both India and Nepal in addition to domestic non-profit organizations. She holds a BA in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University where she studied Public Health and International Development.

In the next installment of the on-going series, “New Visions for Improving Health Care in the Developing World,” Results for Development (R4D) and the Global Health Council (GHC) will consider the advantages and pitfalls of the private sector’s involvement in healthcare. Health systems require strong public and private actors, and this session will consider how policy makers can incentivize private sector actors to help meet national health system goals.

At a major launch event of the Center for Strategic International Studies’ (CSIS) Commission on Smart Global Health Policy in Washington today, a policy paper authored by R4D for the CSIS was released, addressing the future role of the U.S. government in innovative financing for health.

The secretariat of the Health Financing Task Force at the Results for Development Institute prepared this paper for the 25th meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board to evaluate the impact of the global financial crisis on HIV/AIDS programs in developing countries.

As part of the Board's request to study and revise its existing eligibility criteria, certain countries currently receiving GAVI aid are expected to become ineligible. For this reason, proper and fair graduation procedures need to be established to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition to self-financing.
