Improving Stewardship of Mixed Health Systems Workshop

To enrich the analysis and to provide a unique opportunity for countries to compare stewardship experiences, the Engelberg Center and the Results for Development Institute hosted a workshop on October 26, 2009 with health system representatives from both the US and the developing world.  Attendees included the American Medical Association, the Institute of Medicine, the American Association of Retired People, the Churches and Health Association of Ghana, the Centre for Health and Social Services in Ghana, the Nigerian National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and many others. Participants shared mechanisms that were potentially adaptable in other countries, like insurance claims arrangements, and instances where developing countries could leapfrog other countries, like the use of electronic records.  The workshop illuminated opportunities for donors, governments and other stakeholders to promote and support mixed health system stewardship in the developing world.
