Education

Education is playing an increasingly important role as our economies and societies become more knowledge-based, and R4D's leadership has now added Education to our growing portfolio.  This area complements and links to our work in health, governance and transparency.  Our strategy in this program area is to improve education policy making in developing countries by building governments' capacity, promoting the role of independent policy insititutes and civil society organizations, and advising donors and other sources of external finance on the major challenges facing developing countries in the area.

In addition to our broad focus on education policy making, R4D will likely have activities targeting governance issues in education; educational finance; early childhood development; the relationships among education, nutrition and health; technical and vocational education at secondary schools, as well as at the level of polytechnics/community colleges, and the world of work; using learning assessments to improve quality; e-learning; the role of the private sector; workforce issues (teachers and administrators); and the global aid architecture for education. R4D’s education portfolio is led by Nicholas Burnett, PhD, a global leader on improving education outcomes for the world’s poor. Alan Ruby and Birger Fredriksen will join the Education team as Senior Technical Advisors. For more information on our new education program area, please email: nburnett@resultsfordevelopment.org

The Rockefeller Foundation recently awarded R4D with a grant in support of research and convenings to identify and explore innovative secondary education for skills enhancement, and explore paths to scale up the most effective models in Africa and Asia. To learn more click here.
